I spent the New Year's Eve and the New Year watching movies. Sounds like a crazy cinephile. Please do call me that. What a compliment haha. Anyway, yesterday I watched Bumblebee but today, I watched Mary Poppins Returns. I have to admit, I didn't remember watching Mary Poppins when I was a kid. Maybe a glimpse of it but I rewatched Mary Poppins few years ago, I'm guessing 2014 and I love it so much. I've been a fan since. Julie Andrews was spectacular as Mary Poppins. She was elegant, beautiful, poise, amazing and you can insert every good words you can think of to describe Julie Andrews.

The question is was Mary Poppins Returns good?
Yes it was! It was good but not quite as good. It's nobody's fault really, a reboot a remake or of any sorts would always be haunted by the expectations of the original film. Especially for something quite as legendary as Mary Poppins.

In my opinion, I love it. Emily Blunt did a great job at portraying Mary Poppins. Her Mary Poppins actually seemed a bit more adventurous, which is a good thing too. For this movie, the story is definitely heavier than the first movie. The issue and the problem they're facing is actually a much more difficult one and the children is put on a position of trying to solve a problem kids their age shouldn't be facing. But anyway, I love how deep the writers decided to go with it. It even puts Mary Poppins in a position to have to understand with sorrows. Not just trying to help them but understand them.
I can say Mary Poppins films' biggest concept is character's growth. In both films, the character developments were the pillars of the movie. So, they faced no problem in that area.

To be extremely honest, I cried watching this movie (anyone who knows me would know that it's not a big news to them) but Mary Poppins Returns is definitely more emotional than the first movie. I love the fact that the child actors were extremely talented, they delivered their roles well, I was able to cry for them and feel their frustrations. I love how Emily Blunt sang beautifully, she sang emotionally when she needed to. I love how warm Mary Poppins Returns is actually. That's the best way to describe emotionally, how I felt watching the movie.
OoOoh! Note on how the colours of the whole movie gets from darker to bright and colourful! I love the details!
Also, I've never heard of Ben Whishaw before but damn he's a good actor. I love him too!

The songs were good. I actually have some of my favourites. HOWEVER, there isn't a song as spectacular, catchy or legendary like the songs from the first movies. It doesn't mean it's not good. The songs are really fun but I guess wasn't as good as it can be. Still a musical I would love to rewatch. Also, there was a plothole on Meryl Streep's character. There's something of theirs that were never quite explained with what happened to it.
Overall.... I love it! If it made me cry, made me feel warm and made me laugh. YES I LOVE IT.

One of the main reasons I love it is because, I feel like right now, the world feels like everyone is thinking too much (I AM THINKING TOO MUCH MOST OF THE TIME), and it is filled with negativity. However, Mary Poppins Returns to me, felt like the positivity pills the world needs right now. We need a bit of her colours, her wisdom, her humour and her songs. The movie made me feel positive, optimistic. It taught me to try thinking less of everything and enjoy the present we have. Live in the moment and be happy. So, ended 2018 with a lot of problems and beginning 2019 watching something as positive as Mary Poppins Returns made me feel so OPTIMISTIC and happy. Learned a lot from this movie.
So, THANK YOU MARY POPPINS!
